20TH YR CELEBRATION OF KARGIL VIJAY DIWAS AT ACC & S AHMEDNAGAR
Ahmednagar, July 29, 2019 : The twentieth anniversary of ‘Operation Vijay’, Indian Army’s historic victory over Pakistan in the treacherous & inhospitable high altitude terrain of Kargil sector, is an iconic moment that must be celebrated fittingly to honour the courage & sacrifice of the gallant soldiers who won this war for the Nation.
The Armoured Corps Centre & School, Ahmednagar, ‘Mecca’ of Armoured Corps, commemorated the occasion appositely with a series of events that served to honour the fallen, ‘fete the brave’ and publicise the saga of ‘Operation Vijay’ in the Military & Civilian fraternity alike. Running the gamut from solemn, ceremonial events to informative interactions and even near-festive gatherings, the week long programme encapsulated the Indian Army’s premise for the event – Remember, Rejoice & Renew.
The week long celebrations commenced on 23 Jul 2019 with a solemn ‘Wreath Laying Ceremony’ held at the Armoured Corps War Memorial. Commandant and other Senior Serving Officers and Veterans laid wreath to pay tribute to the brave hearts who laid down their lives in the service of the Nation. The celebrations included motivational lectures for school students, screening of audio visual clippings and movies on Kargil war alongwith host of other activities.
The events culminated on 28 Jul 2019 with a ‘Run of Remembrance’ organised within the Armoured Corps Centre & School campus.
The Run was a gala affair, attended by over three thousand personnel including ladies & children. The event sent a message to all serving Army personnel, veterans and their families to ‘Stay Fit’, as only then would the efforts of the Heroes of Kargil find vindication.
