4000 new rooms will be allotted to anganwadis in Maharashtra

Mumbai, 23 January 2020: Construction of new four thousand rooms for anganwadis is planned in the next financial year and basic facilities of drinking water, toilet, etc. should be provided at these new classrooms, instructed Women & Child Development Minister Smt. Yashomati Thakur.

She spoke at the state-level conference related to nutrition mission. ‘Rajmata Jijau Mata-Bal Arogya Ani Poshan Abhiyan’ under the Women & Child Development Department and ‘UNICEF’ organized the conference jointly.

Stating the importance of anganwadis for the child’s thorough development Smt. Thakur said that all anganwadis in the state should be working. Recruitment of five thousand and five hundred anganwadi sevika vacancies has been approved for that purpose. A decision has been taken to increase the rent for anganwadis that are held at private property. Inactive angawadis should be activated immediately.

Funds for the anganwadi room construction will be provided from the District Planning Committee, Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and Gram Panchayat Development Plan. She also informed that eight lakh and fifty thousand rupees have been proposed for one classroom.

Strict implementation of the PCPNDT Act

Various departments should coordinate to improvise the 0 to 6-age gender ratio. Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act (PCPNDT) should be implemented strictly for that. ZP CEO should play important role in the implementation of this act. Corrupt sonography centers, hospitals should be raided. Inquiry in the proper direction will be suggested to prove the charges.

Child malnutrition in the inaccessible area is a serious problem and the administration should take sensitive steps to solve the issue. Chief Executive Officers should look after supply management for the proper provision of ‘Take Home Ration (THR)’ and ‘Hot Cook Meal (HCM)’. She also told that annual turnover limit has been marked down to Rs. 10 thousand from Rs. 25 thousand so more organizations can bid in for ‘THR’ and ‘HCM’.

Nutritious meal management in tribal & inaccessible areas should be supervised carefully. Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) and Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) children should be treated immediately. Gram Panchayat should be encouraged to participate more in various schemes of the Women & Child Development Department. She also informed that a methodology would be drafted for the better supervision of integrated child development projects in cities.

Anganwadi sevikas should see to it that their mobiles would be always in working conditions for the implementation of schemes and for online data filling. Damaged instruments should be changed. It should be seen that weight and height calculators are properly working. She also said that all reports should be submitted regularly.

Secretary of Women & Child Development Department Smt. I.A. Kundan gave the information on the proceedings of the department, in the conference. Smt. Indra Malo, Integrated Child Development Project Commissioner presented the project review. Smt. Shraddha Joshi, Managing Director of ‘MAVIM’ gave the information about loans provided to women’s self-help groups. Rajeshwari Chandrasekaran, Chief of Field Office (CFO) UNICEF and other officers gave the presentation at this conference.

Minister Smt. Thakur distributed fixed deposit certificates deposited for women who opted for tubal ligation after one or two girl children. They were given the benefit under ‘Mazi Kanya Bhagyashree’ scheme. Minister Shri. Thakur read the oath ‘Save girl child, Educate girl child’ to the present people.

ZP CEO, district project officers of the Women & Child Development Department were present at the conference.
