5th Army International Scout Masters Competition to be held in Jaisalmer

5 July 2019: Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India : The fifth edition of International Army Scout Masters Competition is being held at Jaisalmer Military Station under the aegis of Southern Command of the Indian Army. The competition is a part of the International Army Games and consists of five stages which will be conducted over a period of nine days from 06 August 2019 to 14 August 2019 at Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.

The previous Army Scout Masters Competition was held in Novosibirsk, Russia and it is the first time that India has got an opportunity to host and participate in this prestigious event. Reconnaissance / Scout Master Teams are the elite units who are engaged in obtaining intelligence about the enemy for execution of future military operations. Soldiers who form part of these elite units undergo a deep selection process and are vastly experienced soldiers having abundance of combat experience to perform arduous and complex combat missions. The elite teams will undergo a gruelling experience in the desert conditions which will test their endurance, professional acumen, grit and capability, to the hilt. The other seven countries participating are Armenia, Belarus, China, Kazakhstan, Russia, Uzbekistan and Zimbabwe.
In order to set the ball rolling and to infuse the competitive spirit and fervor, a Curtain Raiser for the event was held on 05 July 2019 at Manekshaw Center, New Delhi. The event was attended by General Bipin Rawat, Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General SK Saini, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command alongwith various other senior officers of Indian Army, officials of the Ministry of Defence, representatives of the International Organising Committee and Defence  Attaches of the participating countries.
During the Curtain Raiser, the participating teams were briefed on the rules, regulations and modalities for successful conduct of the event by the Organising
Committee. Thereafter, the Army Commander, Southern Command in his address conveyed his gratitude to the International Organising Committee for reposing their trust and faith in the Indian Army to host this prestigious event and asked the participants to utilize the competition to inculcate espirit-de-corps, interoperability and sharing of best practices while showcasing highest standards of competitive spirit. He also enthused the organisers to make this competition a successful and memorable event by conducting it in a professional and befitting manner. Release of the Army Scout Masters Magazine was also carried out during the function. The Opening Ceremony for the event will be held on 05 August 2019 at Jaisalmer, concurrently with a Grand Ceremony at Moscow which will be attended by a large number of foreign and Indian dignitaries.
