Doordarshan Asst Engineer booked for naked sunbath on Sinhgad Fort

Pune – A 50-year-old assistant engineer of government owned Doordarshan, has been booked by Pune rural police for allegedly having nude sunbath on the historic Sinhgad Fort, about 25 km from here, on Sunday morning.

The accused Latif Sayyed has been charged for offences under sections 295 (a) (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal code. Based on complaint from Swapnil Dilip Jamble (23) of Jambhulwadi, the FIR has been registered with Haveli police station.

According to police, Jamble and 17 others including few women had gone to the fort for cleanliness drive around around 9 am. “While cleaning the fort, we reached near Doordarshan site and saw him sitting naked on a chair in the sun outside his room. When we asked about it, he stood up and wrapped towel around his waist. He told us that he needs Vitamin D, therefore he was having nude sunbath. He went inside the room. Later we asked other staffs of Doordarshan, who informed us that his name is Latif Sayyed”, Jamble said.

After that Jamble and his team members approached police and lodged the complaint for hurting their sentiments. “Sinhgad Fort is associated with glories of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Sayyed’s act has hurt our sentiments”, Jamble added.
