This was the bizarre reason behind Mizoram’s Yoga Boycott

There are thousands of people in the world who practice yoga on a daily basis not because they are Hindu, Christian, Sikh or any other religion; but only because they believe in only one thing – ‘Health is Wealth.’

But Mizoram does not seem to agree with it! On international Yoga Day, when the whole country was practicing yoga, the state deprived itself of it. According to reports, Church leaders feel that it is “essentially a Hindu religious practice.” Even The Young Mizo Association and some other student organizations alleged that it has a “hidden agenda of Hindu organizations like the Sangh Parivar.”

People’s Right to Identity and Status of Mizoram Party stated that they would do everything in their power to end the practice of Yoga. Only the Assam Rifles observed the day as the concluding day of the ‘Healthy Mizoram Campaign’.
