Sangamner Corporator, 4 others detained with banned notes of Rs 3 crores

Pune city police have detained five persons including a corporator from Sangamner (Ahmednagar district) for allegedly carrying Rs three crores in demonetised notes.

They had come to Bandiwan temple around 11.30 pm on Thursday in Raviwar Peth to exchange the notes.

However, police got information about it and a team from Khadak police station caught them. Police have recovered currency notes in denomination of Rs 500 and Rs 1000.

Those detained by police include corporator Gajendra Bajaba Abhang (47) of Sangamner, and his accomplices Vijay Abhimanhyu Shinde (38) of Khadki, Aditya Vishwas Chavan (25) of Mulshi, Suresh Pandurang Jagtap (40) of Phaltan in Satara district, and Navnath Kashinath Bhandagle (28) of Karve nagar.

Assistant police inspector Vaibhav Pawar has lodged the complaint against them for offences under relevant sections of the Specified Bank Notes (Cessation of Liabilities) Act, 2017.
