Advocates condemn arrest of Adv. Sanjeev Punalekar, Protest in front of CBI office in Goa !

Advocates in Goa submitted a memorandum to the CBI office in Goa condemning the arrest of Adv. Sanjiv Punalekar and demanded to immediately release him on June 3. Advocates also protested in front of CBI office in Goa and gave slogans condemning the arrest.

Memorandum further says that ”arrest of Adv. Sanjiv Punalekar is a gross violation of privilege communication of Advocate-Client Relationship. There is a need to prevent possible exploitation of Advocate -Client Relationship. CBI has directly attack on the privilege provided to the Lawyers under the provisions of the Law. It is a great threat to the lawyer’s community at large as any accused may put any allegation against the lawyer been advice by him or the police officer. Such incident may occur with any of us if immediate action is not taken by Bar Council and Bar Association.” Memorandum contains signatures of 26 advocates. At this time, Adv. Kamleshchandra Tripathi from India With Wisdom Group, Varanasi, Adv. Suresh Kulkarni, founder member of Hindu Vidhidnya Parishad, Adv. Nagesh Joshi, Goa State Secretary of Hindu Vidhidnya Parishad, other advocates from Goa namely Adv. Satyavan Palker, Adv. Shilendra Naik, President of Ponda Bar Association, Adv. Gajanan Naik, Adv. Rajesh Gaonkar and Adv. (Mrs.) Anupama Shirodker were present. Copy of the memorandum will be given to Prime Minster’s office and The Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs (CBI).
