26 NOV 2018, Pune: Pune’s premier engineering and technology institute Army Institute of Technology (AIT) was recognized as one of the leading academic organization in India for adopting best practices in education. AIT figures in a report on “Best practices by AICTE Institutes”, released by AICTE in November 2018.

This initiative is aimed at motivating other institutions in the country who could follow these best practices and ensure quality education to the students. The body had earlier asked its recognized institutes to provide with the report on their best practices in running the institutes. Out of the 30 shortlisted colleges, eight are from Maharashtra including three from Pune. AIT was recognized for their work towards making the education better in their own way by providing motivation and better environment to study.

AIT was specially awarded for its alternative and unique approaches to make their campus green and sustainable in every way. AIT is currently providing solar street lights and has converted all lights to LED lights. It also has 325 KVA solar power generating system which helps in producing around 40-45% of electricity needs of the institute.

While this initiative is a small contribution in ensuring minimum damage to the environment, it also is an example for the students about respecting their ecosystem and ensuring sustainable development.

Last year, AIT launched a zero garbage champagne leading to scientific separation of garbage and effective waste management in their campus. The institute also took various initiatives for energy conservation, use of renewable energy, rain water harvesting, and effectively using solar power for water heating and cooling.

Speaking about the development,Brig Abhay Bhat, Director, Army Institute of Technology said, “It is indeed a matter of pride and honor on receiving the recognisation from a prestigious body like AICTE. I would like to thank all the faculty members, staff and students for their valuable contribution. We at AIT firmly believe in implementing various practices which benefit one and all. The award once again reiterates our commitment towards adopting and implementing practices which works towards sustainability and protecting the environment.”
