AMMUNITION FACTORY KHADKI  (AFK) CREATES   THIRTY BEDDED ISOLATION WARD FOR COVID- 19 PATIENTS IN  PUNE

2 April 2020, Pune- Ammunition Factory Khadki, an iconic defence Arms manufacturing hub, under Ordnance Factory Board, Ministry of Defence, is also at the vanguard of fight against the COVID19 pandemic.

 

This more than 150 years old institution, reputed for its world class small Arms ammunition and artillery ammunition   products, has passionately joined the Government effort to fight the Corona Virus.

 


In pursuance of the directives of Ordnance Factory Board, Ammunition Factory Khadki (AFK) has created   a thirty bedded isolation ward for Covid- 19 patients in Pune. It is a part of Ordnance Factory Board’s endeavour to put in place 285 beds as part of the national effort to prevent the spread of the dreaded disease. The isolation ward in Ordnance Factory Hospital is equipped with all requisite equipment to enable isolation of Covid-19 patients. With this, AFK   makes its contribution towards the efforts of the Government to counter the spread of the illness in the community.

 

Adequate number of masks and sanitizer is the key to fight the disease. The demand for them is quite staggering. There is a real need to ramp up their production in the country. Ammunition Factory Khadki has, therefore, ventured into these areas to equip our essential services staff with masks and hand sanitizers. It has so far manufactured 700 face masks and 100 litres of hand sanitizers. On 1/04/2020, fifty bottles of Hand sanitizers, of 100 ml each, were handed over to Khadki Police station, by  M. K. Mohapatra, the Senior General Manager, AFK, for usage by the local police.

 

Moreover, responding to the appeal of the Hon’ble Prime Minister, the employees of AFK have voluntarily contributed a cumulative amount of  Rs. 1.15 crores to the PM Care Fund. The contribution, deducted from their salaries/wages, will be remitted to the said fund on 03.04.2020.
