Bhavna Tokekar wins Gold Open Asian Powerlifting Championships

Pune, July 15, 2019 : Bhavna Tokekar (47) competed at the Open Asian Powerlifting Championships of AWPC/ WPC held at Chelyabinsk, Russia on the 13/14th of July. Weighing at 64.9kgs she competed in U67.5 Masters2 Category to bag a Gold in Full Powerlifting Raw and Bench Only. Her best lifts were Squat – 85kgs, Bench – 62.5kgs and Deadlifts – 120kgs.

Bhavna being wife of fighter pilot and full time home maker, gave up her career to raise her sons but at the same time kept her active lifestyle. She was introduced to weight training by the trainers of the Indian Air Force’s Bodybuilding Team.

With over two decades to committed lifestyle to resistance training, she decided to give a shot at Powerlifting and reached out to Mohammed Azmat, Coach WPC India. She was selected and was made a part of the Team India by Daljit Singh, Head of WPC India.

After having her technique revised, she was trained online by Mohammed Azmat, the integral factor to her success was her ever supporting spouse Group Captain Shreepad Tokekar, who ensured that she followed the training plan to the T.

With all the support, prayers of her family, friends, she set out and competed at Chelyabinsk, Russia, to put in her best on the platform. That she did and won the accolades for India, she is now traveling back with the medals and more importantly the experience and memories to cherish and build upon.

She is already working on sponsorship for her next Championship which is WPC Worlds 2019!
