Pune, 27th January 2020: The usually quiet neighborhood surrounding Ruby Hall Clinic Wanowarie was filled with the low rumbling of over 50 Harley Davidson motorbikes as a group of biking enthusiasts visited the hospital earlier this morning. On the Sunday morning of Republic Day, bikers from the Two Rivers Harley Davidson Pune Chapter created an attention grabbing convoy on their way to the hospital. Post a tour of the premises, they participated in a blood donation drive there along with a health check-up. The growing community of bikers came out in support of the event in order to use the opportunity to reach out to those in need whilst also propagating the message of the importance of road safety.

“As an active biking community, it has always been our mission to come out and actively support activities that benefit society at large. Today, we’ve not only set out to encourage road safety, but also highlight that active blood donation has the potential to save the lives of so many people, a lot of which may also be road accident victims. We’re happy to be part of this activity and make a marked difference,” said Mr. Surjit Rajpurohit, Director, Two-Rivers Harley Davidson Pune Chapter.

With the shelf-life of donated blood being 35 to 42 days, there is a constant need to replenish stocks in blood banks. This can only be addressed if healthy individuals donate blood frequently. Each year, close to 1900 units of blood and blood components are procured and issued at Ruby Hall Clinic Wanowarie’s blood storage centre which is required for countless reasons, right from surgeries to labour and even unprecedented accidents.

At Ruby Hall Clinic Wanowarie’s blood storage centre, the NABH accredited facility has the equipment to make the most out of every drop of blood collected. Quality too, comes into focus, because it raises community confidence as a whole. Keeping abreast with cutting edge technology, it has all the life altering protocols like irradiation, leucodepletion, apheresis and component separation under one roof.

On this occasion, Dr. Manisha Karmarkar, COO, Ruby Hall Clinic Wanowarie commented, “At Ruby Hall Clinic Wanowarie, we are privileged and honoured to host our enthusiastic biking members from the Harley Davidson community. This event marks a unique initiative wherein two esteemed brands have come together for a community-driven cause. Every one of us has within us the life saving gift called blood. The blood you donate gives someone another chance at life. One day, that someone may be a close relative, a friend, a loved one — or even you. We are thankful to the members of the Two Rivers Harley Davidson Pune Chapter who have come out to highlight the need and spread awareness about this noble act of blood donation whilst also propagating road safety. I am proud of each and every one those present here today and as a hospital, we strongly encourage all those who are able to do so to support this noble cause, today and every single day.”

Mr. Bomi Bhote, CEO, Ruby Hall Clinic concluded, “Giving blood voluntarily is the highest form of solidarity a person can show. It costs only a few minutes of our times but makes an immeasurable difference to those in need. At the same time we would like to encourage people in good health who have never given blood, particularly young people, to begin doing so. After all, as a responsible healthcare institution, it’s not just our duty to treat those in need, but also protect and educate the community at large.”
