BITS announces winners of
BITS Annual Professional Translation Awards 2015’ on the occasion of
International Translation Day

Punekar News's photo.Pune, 1st October, 2015: In its endeavor to create awareness about ‘Translation as a profession’ and to provide a platform to professional and aspiring translators, BITS Private Limited, India’s leading provider of total language solutions instituted the ‘BITS Annual Professional Translation Awards’ in 2011. The awards are entirely conceptualized and the brainchild of Mr. Sandeep Nulkar, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) – BITS Private Limited and is given on the occasion of International Translation Day that is celebrated worldwide on 30th September every year. The idea is to bring the focus on translation being a serious profession like any other and to make aspiring translators and consumers of languages services aware that professional translators do not translate only because they know two languages and that they have put in years of hard work and one needs to acquire a lot of other skills and capabilities before one can claim to be a translator.

Gurudutt Kamath was adjudged as ‘BITS Professional Translator of the year’. He was awarded a trophy and cash prize of Rs. 21,000/-. Uddhav Godbole won the ‘BITS Aspiring Professional Translator of the year’ and he received a trophy and cash prize of Rs. 11,000/- Raymond Doctor, a veteran from this field took away the “Special Recognition Award” for his outstanding work and was presented with a trophy and cash prize of Rs 5000/-.

All the winners were felicitated by the Chief Guest, Mr Ranjeet Oak, Chief Business Officer, Makemytrip.com and Mr. Sandeep Nulkar, Chairman and Managing Director – BITS Private Limited.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Oak said, The presence of global brands in India are increasing day by day and with the objective to reach out to larger audience, these brands are using more and more local language in their communication to establish a direct connect with their prospective customers. Consumers are currently deciding the language in which they need to be addressed and hence the demand for Indian languages that have already seen a surge will only go up even further going forward. He further added, “This unique initiative by BITS will go a long way in motivating professional translators and sending a message that the Company recognizes and respects the work that they do which otherwise goes unnoticed”.

Mr. Sandeep Nulkar, Chairman and Managing Director, BITS Private Limited said, “The demand for professional translators is increasing day by day and there is an urgent need to address the enormous job opportunities that many Corporate and government and non-government offices have created. Speaking about the Annual Awards instituted by BITS, he said that a need was felt to give recognition to people who practice or intend to pursue translation as a career. This was thus a small initiative by BITS to recognize available talent and encourage more and more people to take up translation as a serious profession”.

The award ceremony was followed by staging of a play “Du and Me” a play derived from the collaborative efforts of Grips Theatre Berlin and Maharashtra Culture Centre, Pune. The play written and directed by Shrirang Godbole and Vibhawari Deshpande and co written by Lutz Huebner revolves around a German boy visiting a Maharashtrian family on a student exchange program. This cultural exchange has many surprises as the two cultures collide. The performances by eminent artists left the crowd spellbound.
