BITS Annual Professional Translation Awards 2016
Pune, 03rd October, 2016: In its endeavor to create awareness about ‘Translation as a profession’ and to provide a platform to professional and aspiring translators, BITS Private Limited, India’s leading provider of total language solutions instituted the ‘BITS Annual Professional Translation Awards’ in 2011. The awards are the brainchild of Mr. Sandeep Nulkar, Founder, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) – BITS Private Limited and are given on the occasion of International Translation Day that is celebrated worldwide on 30th September every year. The idea is to bring the focus on translation being a serious profession like any other and to make aspiring translators and consumers of languages services aware that professional translators do not translate only because they know two languages and that they have put in years of hard work and one needs to acquire a lot of other skills and capabilities before one can claim to be a translator.
Lalitha Marathe was adjudged as ‘BITS Professional Translator of the year’. She was awarded a trophy and cash prize of Rs. 21,000/-. Nithya Bhaskar won the ‘BITS Aspiring Professional Translator of the year’ and she received a trophy and cash prize of Rs. 11,000/-. Amitosh Nagpal, took away the “Special Recognition Award” for his outstanding work and was presented with a trophy and cash prize of Rs 11000/-.
All the winners were felicitated by the Chief Guest, Frank Hoffmann, Regional Director, Indo-German Chamber of Commerce and Mr. Sandeep Nulkar, Chairman and Managing Director – BITS Private Limited.
Speaking on the occasion, Frank Hoffmann said, “BITS is building bridges between India and other countries and is reaching out far by means of language. This initiative is a very important contribution to the development of language services industry and will go a long way in motivating professional translators. I wish BITS great success for the future ventures and hope this award function grows bigger by every year.
Mr. Sandeep Nulkar, Chairman and Managing Director, BITS Private Limited said, “The demand for professional translators is increasing day by day. With all the technology and big data coming in, there is an urgent need to address the enormous job opportunities that many Corporate and government and non-government offices have created. In a field which has so much potential, it is extremely important to give recognition to people who practise or intend to pursue translation as a career. These awards are thus a small initiative by BITS to recognize available talent and encourage more and more people to take up translation as a serious profession. It is a small means to identity people who are not only exceptionally well in their own field but are also doing their part in giving back to the society and the industry”
The award ceremony was followed by a cultural programme “Nrityanubhooti” that presented a unique blend of three classical dance styles: Odissi, Kathak and Bharatnatyam. The dancers compared the three dance styles while highlighting the key features of each dance form to help the audience appreciate classical dance forms better. They spoke about the origin, postures, music, etc. associated with each dance form. This was followed by a stunning performance of traditional pieces from each dance style – Odissi by Prachitee Dange, Kathak by Madhura Aphale and Bharatnatyam by Shruti Tekawade.
