CBI ARRESTS A DEPUTY COMMISSIONER OF GST AND AN OFFICIAL IN A BRIBERY CASE

Mumbai – The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Deputy Commissioner, GST, Amravati (Maharashtra) and also a Head Hawaldar of said office in a bribery case of Rs. 1.5 Lakh.

CBI has registered a case u/s. 7 of PC Act, 1988 against Deputy Commissioner, GST, Amravati on a complaint alleging that the complainant was running a tuition class at Yavatmal (Maharashtra) coming under Amravati Division of GST. It was also alleged that Deputy Commissioner, GST, Amravati demanded a bribe of Rs. 3 Lakh from the complainant for not imposing any penalty on him. Later, the accused reduced the bribe amount to Rs. 1.5 Lakh when the complainant expressed his inability to pay and directed the complainant to handover the bribe at Amravati.

CBI laid a trap and caught the Deputy Commissioner red handed while demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs.1.5 Lakh from the complainant. During the investigation, the role of Head Hawaldar, GST, Amravati Division in the fraudulent transaction also came into light and he was arrested.

Searches were conducted at the residence & office of Deputy Commissioner and also at the residence of Head Hawaldar, GST, Amravati which led to recovery of various incriminating documents.

Both the arrested accused are being produced today before the Designated Court.
