Citizens launch signature campaign to #SaveBanerPashanHills
Pune, July 14, 2019 : Over 1000 citizens today morning participated in a signature campaign to register their objections against the excavation of the Baner hills.
Citizens want development but not at the cost of environment. The hills are the lungs of the city, they are the natural groundwater recharge zones and are home to many species of flora and fauna. Over 45000 trees have been planted by various environment and plantation groups since 2006 and the CCTs, check dams, ponds built by them are recharging the aquifers of a very large area which provides groundwater to lakhs of citizens.
Citizens on Sunday morning planted trees on the hills and hill slopes which were excavated by Pune Smart city and promised to protect the hills by all legal means and approach the NGT, High Court if necessary.
Vasundhara Abhiyan Baner, Vasundhara Swachata Abhiyan,Dr. Garudkar Vasundhara Abhiyan, Baner, Aundh Baner Balewadi Pashan Vikas Mancha – ABBP, Baner Balewadi Pashan Residents Association, Baner Pashan Link Rd Welfare Trust, Bhujal Abhiyan, Ramnadi Swachata Abhiyan, Devnadi Swachata Abhiyan members were also present on the occasion.
