Pune, April 4, 2020: The Gram Panchayat of Wagholi and Lonikand police station, Pune rural police, has issued diktat for complete shutdown in Wagholi located on the outskirts of Pune on the Ahmadnagar road.

The order was issued on Friday (April 3) and this complete lockdown will continue for three days ie on April 4, 5, 6. Except medical, milk, hospital and animal related services, all shops will remain closed including Kirana and Vegetable shops.

“During the lockdown, even though there is adequate supply of essential commodities, people are found roaming under various pretexts. Hence, a meeting of the local police, Grampanchayat and Zilha Parishad members was held and a decision was taken to observe complete shutdown in Wagholi for three days, to prevent the spread of Coronavirus”, states the order.

However, many people questioned this move by the local administration. “It’s sad. Now our society has even implemented lockdown of gate saying police is going to take action against society management if found in violation. We have to sign a form if we have tk go out during lockdown hours for any thing such as hospital visit or pharmacy. The motive is good but the way its executed just created the opposite effect. Already Wagholi residents are following the government orders. This was not needed. If few were violating then action needed against them, locking down stores not the solution in my opinion”, a person tweeted.

Yesterday the same person had tweeted, “Is this allowed when Government has mandated that no essential services be shut down? #Wagholi residents are in panic buying mode now.”

Aninda Sagar tweeted, “Dear @PuneCityPolice and @CPPuneCity
is this legal? My friend’s parents, both senior citizens living alone in Wagholi, got this from their society administrators. They were very concerned about how they can stock up on essentials for three days without any help”
