Curfew extended in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad till 5 am on March 23

Pune/Pimpri, March 22, 2020: To prevent the spread of Coronavirus, curfew has been extended in Pune City, Pune rural and Pimpri Chinchwad areas till 5 am on Monday (March 23). The voluntary ‘Janta Curfew’ was from 7 am to 9 pm today.

Pune police Jt CP Ravindra Shisve and Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner Sandeep Bishnoi issued curfew orders for their respective jurisdictions. Pune District Collector Naval Kishore Ram issued order for Pune rural areas.

At 5 pm, many people were seen coming out in groups and ringing bells, beating plates, many people were seen bursting crackers. All these were against the call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi who had express gratitude to doctors, nurses, government officials, who are working to contain Coronavirus. He had asked people to stand outside their house or in balcony and ring bells or beat plates.

Meanwhile, as the number of Coronavirus patients reached 75 in the state, Chief Minister Udhav Thackeray today ordered Maharashtra lockdown from Sunday (today) midnight till March 31.

There will be no trains, buses (except city buses for essential services). Only offices, shops engaged in essential services like milk, vegetable, Kirana, medicine, will remain open. Banks and share market will also function. Only five percent of government staffs will work.

CM Thackeray also asked people coming from abroad to remain in quarantine.

In all urban areas, section 144 which prohibits the gathering of more than four persons, will be imposed from today midnight. Therefore, people should not come out of their homes unnecessarily.
