Pune, September 15, 2019 : About 40 persons gathered at the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar statue near Sassoon hospital to stand in solidarity with Kashmir, to spread the word of peace, humanity and love and to bring attention to the humanitarian crisis that has gripped J&K, said journalist and social activist Sanika Athavale who organised the program.

Athavale who is from Pune, was in Kashmir when shutdown was imposed in the state on August 5 after abrogation of Article 370. She returned from there to Pune on August 26 and claimed that there was big difference in the media narrative and the ground reality in the state.

“The peaceful demonstration was held to demand lifting the communication blockade, reinstate human rights, and initiate a democratic dialogue with the people of J&K. The unique aspect about this peace demonstration is that the participants were complete strangers before they came together for this cause. We have got to know each other in the process of organizing this event and we stand in complete agreement with the demands of the demonstration”, she added.
