Devendra Fadnavis resigns as Maharashtra Chief Minister

Mumbai, November 8, 2019: Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis submitted his resignation to Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari today.

The term of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly will end on November 9. Suspense can also be ended today about whether a government will be formed in the state or President’s rule will be implemented. Yesterday, Governor BS Koshyari discussed legal aspects and constitutional issues with Advocate General Ashutosh Kumbakhoni at Raj Bhavan.

Meanwhile, the conflict between the BJP and Shiv Sena has reached a peak. In view of this, the chances of formation of government soon are less and the possibility of President’s rule has started deepening. Former Maharashtra Advocate General Shrihari Anni said that after November 9, all options for government formation will be closed because it is not provided in the law.

Shiv Sena and NCP attack BJP

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Friday said that if President’s rule is implemented in Maharashtra, it would be an insult to the people of the state. It would be wrong and against the Constitution. He said, “I remember the message of Atal Bihari Vajpayee that we will not run, fight and win in the end. Maharashtra will never bow down.” On the allegations of horse-trading of MLAs, Raut said that if anyone in Maharashtra is trying to repeat Karnataka, then it will not succeed in its effort. At the same time, NCP accused the BJP of taking the state towards President’s rule. NCP Spokesperson Nawab Malik said that Maharashtra would not tolerate this insult. History is witness that Maharashtra has never bowed to the throne of Delhi.

BJP will not form minority government

The delegation of BJP leaders also met Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Thursday but did not stake claim to form the government. On one hand, the Shiv Sena is adamant on making its chief minister, on the other hand, the BJP does not appear to be ready for any concession on the post of CM. Prior to meeting the Governor yesterday, senior BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar, who was in the delegation, said that we are not going to stake claim to form the government. The BJP will not form a minority government in any case.

 Shiv Sena sent MLAs to the hotel

Yesterday Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray held a meeting with MLAs. After this, all the MLAs of the party were sent to a hotel. The Shiv Sena yesterday said that the BJP should declare that it is not capable of forming the government. After this we will take further step. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut accused the BJP of creating a situation of imposing President’s rule by delaying the formation of the government. He said that BJP leaders had gone to meet the Governor yesterday but returned empty-handed as they do not have the majority figure.
