Dr. Ankur Patwardhan from Pune bags award of 25 Thousand Euros in competition held by Elsevier Foundation
Pune, May 18, 2019: In a worldwide competition named ‘Elsevier Foundation- ISC3 Green and Sustainable Chemistry Challenge’, a project idea by Dr. Ankur Patwardhan from Pune has bagged a second prize worth 25 Thousand Euros. His project is about the role of butterflies in pollination and in retaining the balance of nature.
Dr. Patwardhan is currently working as Head of the ‘Annasaheb Kulkarni Biodiversity Department’ at Abasaheb Garware College, Pune. He was awarded in presence of the dignitaries like Domiziana Francescon, Program Officer, Elsevier Foundation, Pro. Rob Van Daalen, Head, Elsevier Chemistry Journal Team, Prof. Klaus Kümmerer from Leuphana University and Dr. Ramia Albakain, Winner of the 1st prize.
This competition had received 600 applications from around the world. Out of which, 50 applications were shortlisted and final 5 applications were selected for presentation in the 4th Green and Sustainable Chemistry Conference recently held in Germany. Dr. Patwardhan’s project is named as ‘Butterfly attractant for pollination and ecosystem health’. It speaks about the relation between Chemistry and Ecosystem.
Dr. Ankur Patwardhan built the idea of this project with the help of Dr. Tejaswini Pachpor and Dr. Dattatray Naik. Dr. Patwardhan serves as a member of Maharashtra State Biodiversity Board. He is also the President of a high level committee appointed by central government on Mahabaleshwar- Panchgani Eco-Sensitive Zone.
