Egyptian Ambassador wants Twin City agreement between Alexandria and Mumbai

Mumbai, 25th April : The newly appointed ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to India Dr Heba Salaheldin Almarassi today said that she is working on establishing a Twin City arrangement between Mumbai and Alexandria city to promote bilateral trade and relations.

Mentioning that Alexandria, the largest port city in Egypt, has a world renowned Alexandria Library, she expressed keenness to establish cooperation between the Alexandria Library and the Asiatic Society Library of Mumbai.

Dr Heba Almarassi was speaking to the Governor of Maharashtra CH. Vidyasagar Rao at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai on Wednesday (24th April).

Stating that all Egyptians follow Indian films, Dr Heba Almarassi invited Indian film makers to shoot films in Egypt. She said, shooting of Indian films in Egypt will promote tourism between the two countries.

Mentioning that India had diplomatic relations with Egypt from the days of Emperor Asoka, the Ambassador said she is keen to promote business cooperation between the two countries.

Informing that the Egyptian International Centre for Agriculture provides scholarships to Indian students for pursuing advanced programmes in Agriculture, she said that Indians can avail of these scholarships.

Welcoming the Ambassador to Maharashtra, Governor Vidyasagar Rao said Egypt is a key player in maintaining peace and stability in West Asia. He assured the Ambassador of his support to any proposal for promoting cooperation between Egypt and Agricultural Universities in Maharashtra.
