Pune is home to a number of Military Headquarters and Institutions. The rapid expansion of the city has resulted in the Cantonments having been merged with modern urban landscape. A number of main arterial roads now pass through the Cantonment where free access has been given to the public. Even the internal roads have eased commutation woes and has proved to be a boon to the Puneites.

In the recent past, there has been an increase in terrorist/ anti-national related incidents in the country. Though most of these incidents occurred in areas close to the Line of Control (LoC) or International Border (IB), the incidents at Pathankot and Gurdaspur clearly indicate that even the hinterland can be targeted by the terrorists. Incidents of 26/11 in Mumbai and German Bakery blasts in Pune are adequate proof that these cities have remained on the radar of such inimical groups/ individuals. Therefore, Pune cannot be considered insulated from untoward incidents initiated by the anti-nationals. After the recent incidents at Nagrota in J&K, there are reliable inputs of widespread terrorist activity across the country especially which give sensational value.  A thorough review of the security arrangements in all cantonments, adjacent areas and vulnerable areas is being undertaken. Certain security measures are being adopted by the Police and the Intelligence Agencies to prevent such nefarious activities by the miscreants. Such security measures like control of traffic, diversions etc. may bring some inconvenience to the public but is necessary to ensure security and safety of the citizens.  To ensure success of these security measures being adopted, all law abiding citizens of Pune are requested to extend their full cooperation to maintain peaceful environment and to deter the anti-nationals from undertaking any terrorist/ anti-national activities.  It is being ensured that the general public is informed through appropriate display boards or by posting army personnel at vulnerable locations/ roads.
