Pune – Hundreds of ex-soldiers protested at the Maratha War Memorial in Camp on Monday against BJP-backed Solapur MLC Prashant Paricharak for his derogatory remarks questioning the fidelity of wives of army personnel.

They have also written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to convey their anguish and said that such elected representative has no place in democracy as soldiers fight for the country.

The MLC was addressing a rally on Saturday ahead of the civic body polls when he came out with a bizarre explanation on current politics in the country.

He said, “A soldier gets a telegram from his wife that she has delivered a baby. As he distributes sweets to his colleagues on the border to celebrate, his colleagues ask him the reason behind it. He happily tells them that his wife has given a birth to a baby boy…but he has not visited him home for a whole year. This is how the politics is”.

As the speech went viral, the MLC came under fire from all corners. He later apologised for the remark and said it was aimed at highlighting the “credit-seeking” mindset of his political opponents. However, his apology did little to stop the barrage of criticism against him
