Experts and government delegates call for a collaborative approach to building future-ready energy efficient ecosystem, at INSPIRE 2019
Mumbai, November 12th, 2019: The two-day International Symposium to Promote Innovation & Research in Energy Efficiency (INSPIRE 2019) concluded in Mumbai, today and featured some of the most prominent leaders and experts discussing ways to harness technology to make the next generation of urban and rural spaces resilient, inclusive, and energy efficient. The symposium was organised by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) in association with The World Bank (WB), Asian Development Bank (ADB), United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and World Resources Institute, India (WRI India), the fourth edition of INSPIRE witnessed participation from over 350 experts and delegates from India, United States, United Kingdom, Israel, Maldives, Thailand and Saudi Arabia.
Based on the theme of Innovation, INSPIRE 2019, honored five pathbreaking innovations in clean energy and energy efficiency as part of the second edition of #InnovateToINSPIRE challenge, a first-of-its-kind energy innovation challenge. The five winners were felicitated by Shri Sanjiv Nandan Sahai, Secretary, Ministry of Power, Government of India. Winners were awarded a cheque of INR 5 lakh, each and mentorship to bring their future-ready solutions to market. The winners were:
- DARWYN (Emobility)
- Reckongreen (Energy Efficient Technology)
- Sunvest (Financial Instruments)
- REConnect Energy (Grid Management)
- Vyoda Pvt Ltd (Clean Energy)
At INSPIRE 2019, EESL entered into an agreement with Axis Bank under the Building Energy Efficiency Programme (BEEP) and will implement Energy Efficiency Measures in around 1300 branches across the country initially, on deemed energy savings based ESCO model with 100% financing by EESL and then scale it up further. EESL exchanged an agreement with Innovative Infocom for implementation of 2 MW Natural Gas Engine based Trigeneration Solution at Navi Mumbai, India. This partnership will provide 8-year lease & support with upfront investment that will help to enable 6.1mn kg of CO2 mitigation. EESL also signed an MoU with CIDCO, Maharashtra for lease & fleet management of electric cars and setting up charging stations. The objective of comprehending synergies in business development across to set up Public Charging Infrastructure for electric mobility. EESL has also unveiled its Coffee Table Book and a report titled “Producing Power Onsite” a handbook on trigeneration.
The two-day program consisted of seven sessions on: relevance of innovation & research in reshaping energy efficiency market in India & learnings from initiatives across the Globe; role of developing organizations in supporting innovations; transformation required in clean energy to meet future energy demands; new frontiers in e-mobility and its role in tackling climate change; interventions required to scale-up innovations; India – Israel collaboration to promote innovation in sustainable energy and a session where the innovation challenge finalists interacted directly with the audience.
As part of the endeavour to showcase the innovations by finalists of #InnovateToINSPIRE challenge, an exhibition was set up at the event. At the exhibition, EESL’s projects and schemes were also showcased, to help participants closely understand the organisation’s innovative business models and programmes.
During the two days, eminent speakers deliberated on e-Mobility, battery storage, financial instruments, clean energy and energy efficient technologies for energy security in India. Eminent dignitaries at the event included Dr. Ajay Mathur, Director General, TERI; Dr. OP Agarwal, CEO, WRI; Mr. Jiwan Acharya, Principal Energy Specialist, ADB; Mr. Anil Srivastava, Principal Advisor, NITI Aayog; Mr. Suvojoy Sen Gupta, Partner, McKinsey, UN Environment; Mr. Sujoy Bose, CEO, NIIF, Dr. Steven Fawkes, Managing Partner, Energy Pro, UK; among others.
Concluding the symposium, Shri Saurabh Kumar, MD, EESL said, “ INSPIRE has emerged as a platform that encourages exchange of global best practices, discussions and deliberations, to ensure a conducive policy environment that translates the practice of energy efficiency into tangible benefits for India and the world at large. “Next year INSPIRE – INSPIRE 2020 will be held in Hyderabad on 8th, 9th and 10th of November 2020, we are going to start off with the innovation challenge so that we get more entries from around the world”. He added.
INSPIRE 2019 has been organised in collaboration with Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), The Energy & Resources Institute (TERI). The event is bringing together policy-makers, influencers, innovators, thought leaders, researchers, leading energy-efficient companies, government agencies, business leaders and other stakeholders to deliberate on key energy policies, market transformation strategies, and sustainable business models that will help leverage the full potential of energy efficiency and bring its multiple co-benefits to the fore.
