FICCI Gujarat State Council Chairman, Deepak Mehta highlights the need to revive Indo- China partner-trade practices at India (Gujarat) – China (Guangdong) Economic and Trade Cooperation Conference 2019

India, 17 th June 2019: The one-day conference aimed at strengthening ties between both
the countries was jointly organised by FICCI with the Department of Commerce of
Guangdong Province, China and Industrial Extension Bureau (iNDEXTb).
Leading a 50-member business delegation from China’s south-eastern province Guangdong
to India, Mr Li Xi, Party Secretary of Guangdong CPC Committee, said that the bilateral trade
and relationship between the two countries are reflected in the ties between Gujarat and
Guangdong.

Deepak Mehta, CMD, Deepak Nitrite Ltd and Chairman, FICCI Gujarat State
Council highlighted the importance on the economic power that lies in China and Gujarat
becoming a 'we' and reviving the 500-year-old history of partner-trade practices, together.
Showcasing the similarities between the two coastal provinces, he said, "What Guangdong is
to China is what Gujarat is to India."

Chief Minister of Gujarat Vijaybhai Rupani present at the conference also emphasised that
both nations should collaborate for mutual growth in a sustainable and inclusive manner to
fulfil their needs.

"Strengthening the cooperation between the two countries, our government has
mandated a 1+1+9 plan for an economic reform as well transformation of the industrial
base, Guangdong. Here, 9 stands for the 9 priorities set for the region to flourish in every
term," Mr Xi said.

"Moreover, we have also streamlined 6 ideas for enhancing the scope of relations
between the two provinces that include turning the Greater bay area (Hong Kong -Macau-
Guangdong belt) and Gujarat into a hot bed of investments for major sectors including
science and technology, education, electronics and others; people exchange; tourism as
well as cultural interaction," he added.

The conference was also attended by Mr Li Bijian, Charge d'affaires, Embassy of the People's
Republic of China in India, Mr Ma Hua, Deputy Director General of Department of
Commerce of Guangdong Province and Mr Hu Jianguo, Deputy Managing Director and
Midea Group-MIB-India Region were among other dignitaries at the conference.
The conference offered an excellent opportunity for business collaboration between Indian
and Chinese companies in the field of electrical and electronics manufacturing, textiles,
medical equipment, healthcare, chemicals, energy, food processing, green technologies,
amongst others. The conference was attended by over 500 B2B Indian and the Chinese
companies.
