First civil-military conference held in Pune

A Civil Military Liaison Conference was held at district level between Army and Civil authorities at Headquarters Dakshin Maharashtra Sub Area on 18 March 2019. The conference, first of its kind in Pune was aimed at achieving greater coordination and synergy both at the functional and the planning levels.
The conference was chaired by Major General Navneet Kumar, General Officer Commanding, Dakshin Maharashtra Sub Area and was attended by Mr. Venketesham, Commissioner of Police Pune, Mr Molak, Joint Municipal Commissioner Pune, Mrs Jayashree Katare, Resident Deputy Collector Pune and various other head of departments viz education, health, railway, special branch of Police, Traffic, Cyber Branch, Mr Yadav, Cantonment Executive Officer, Pune Cantonment Board and various Army authorities.

Wide range of issues related to security, intelligence, traffic, services like water, electricity, health and hygiene were discussed. The highlights of the conference were enhanced security mechanism, intelligence sharing, resolution of traffic issues, reserved place for paying homage to Martyrs at Airport, provision of additional storage space and waiting area for defence personnel at Pune Railway Station, action on dog menace and provision of additional traffic lights and constables at critical junctions in the cantonment. Other issues discussed included issues of woman empowerment and students outreach programme for defence personnel families residing in Pune Cantonment.

It was agreed that there is a need of regular interaction in future and decided that a monthly and quarterly conference will be held at functional and apex level respectively. The Army brought out that its endeavour has always been to reach out to civil population. Towards this, display boards giving out details of cantonment issues affecting civil population will be displayed at prominent places including National War Memorial. Civil authorities praised the work being done by the Indian Army in nation building and welcomed the step of screening the motivational movies at National War Memorial every Saturday at 06.30 PM to motivate the Puneites.
