Gold worth Rs 14.66 lakhs seized from Dubai return passenger

The officers of customs at Pune international airport intercepted one passenger Mr Mohammed Nakhib Shabber Hasan Bapu arrived by SpiceJet flight no. SG-52 on Sunday (March 17).

The personal search of the passenger resulted in the recovery of one polythene strip containing gold in paste form weighing 559.60 gms. This polythene strip was concelaed inside the jeans pant around his waist. The personal search conducted by the officers resulted in the recovery of 559.60 grams of gold paste valued at Rs 14,66,628.

Harshal Mete, Deputy Commissioner of Customs, stated in a press release, “The paste containing gold recovered from the above passenger was seized under the reasonable belief that the same was attempted to be smuggled in India and hence liable for confiscation under provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. In his statement recorded under section 108 of the Customs Act, 1962, the passenger admitted the possession, carriage, concealment and recovery of the said gold in the form of paste under seizure. Further investigation is under progress.”
