The Union Ministry of Women and Child Development seeks increased participation of people for sending nominations to the‪#‎100Women‬ Initiative to recognize 100 women achievers across the nation

The Union Ministry of Women and Child Development has sought increased participation of people in nominating women achievers for its #100 Women Initiative launched in collaboration with Facebook. Through this unique initiative, the Government wishes to acknowledge and recognize 100 women achievers who have contributed to community and nation building across the country. The ‘#100Women Initiative’ involves a contest to select 100 women achievers of India through public nominations via social media and was launched on 15th July, 2015.

Social media has become an integral part of our day to day life and is widely used to share ideas, disseminate information, advocate and connect people from different corners of the world. Realizing the vast reach of social media through use of internet and mobile telephony, Government decided to reach out to its citizens directly through this initiative in collaboration with Facebook.

Indians across the country get inspired by positive and inspirational stories and ‘like’ and ‘share’ them widely. Often, positive stories go ‘viral’. However, this is their chance to go beyond liking and sharing such stories and ‘Act’ on them. They can now nominate women achievers who are unsung to thank them and tell them they matter to the nation.

A nomination can be submitted by anyone across the world but nominees must be Indian women above 18 years of age (as on 31st December, 2015) and for their work done in Indiaunder20 categories listed in the nomination form in the Ministry’s Facebook page. The nomination should also contain a photo or a video pertaining to the area of work done by the nominee, elaborating why she should be recognized and honoured.

Voting will begin on November 7, 2015 on the top 200 entries as determined by an esteemed jury. Winners shall be announced in December, 2015 and they shall be invited to join a reception organized by the Ministry around the Republic Day in January, 2016.

The deadline for the nominations is September 30th, 2015and all are requested to participate by nominating through the Ministry’s Facebook link, mentioned above. It is also requested that the information about the initiative is shared widely so that it reaches even the most remote corners of our vast country.
