The Institute of Company Secretaries of India, (ICSI) is premier professional body set up under an Act of Parliament, i.e., Company Secretaries Act, 1980, for the regulation and development of the profession of Company Secretaries in India has announced their new President. Addressing the media on this occasion, the newly elected president, C. S. Shyam Agrawal,President outlined the major achievements and initiatives of ICSI.

During the programme, he spoke about modified training structure for students. Under the modified Training Structure a student who has passed the Final examination or Professional Programme examination of the Institute shall be eligible for Associate Membership of the Institute only after he/she has undergone the practical training for a period of: three years on registration for Executive Programme; or two years after passing the Executive Programme examination; or one year after passing the Professional Programme examination.

Elaborating on major achievements, he said, “The Institute of Company Secretaries of India reached a Landmark as it’s membership has reached the mark of  50,000 members. In order to commemorate that, Arun Jaitley, Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs in the presence of CSShyam Agrawal, President, ICSI, awarded the ‘Certificate of CS  Membership’ to the 50,000 th member, Mr.Ashutosh Shukla.We have also launched Services E-Helpdesk. These efforts aims inter alia to supplement the initiatives of the regulators by formulating views/ suggestions on various financial services related matters, and simultaneously unleashing initiatives towards capacity building of members.”

Not just the achievements, but he also unveiled the plans for the coming year. “ICSI will organise – ICSI TEACHERS CONGRESS in each Region to create awareness on CS Course and Profession. The programme will generate interest and appeals to the teachers. Eg: ‘Preparing Professionals to Facilitate India’s Economic Growth’ – Role of Teachers, and showcase the initiatives of ICSI and CS profession in this area, informed President,ICSI. We willorganise “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat” – Mega Career Awareness Programmes in each\Region across India to createcomplete awareness on CS Course and Profession and motivate the students for a career which offers inclusive growth in Economic and Business Sector all over India. In addition, an innovative scheme to boost the Career Awareness Activities in Jammu & Kashmir, North Eastern States and the Eastern & Western coastal areas will be launched.

Other important initiatives include :

‘Info Capsules’ will provide easy access to information on all the recent developments and issues concerning not only the profession but the economy as a whole. It is available to the stakeholders through the Institute’s mobile (app) as well as on the homepage of the ICSI websitewww.icsi.edu.

Series of webcasts;Professional iTellect has been started to enrich the knowledge and wisdom of our dear members and students.

Overwhelming response has been received from the stakeholders for both.

ICSI has conducted CS OLYMPIAD in September, 2016. CS Olympiad is for 11th and 12th standard students appearing in the respective examinations in each academic year in schools across India.

ICSI Study Centres shall be set up in cities/ locations where the Regional/ Chapter Office of the ICSI does not exist.

FOR CAPACITY BUILDING, the Institute has Launched PMQ Course in specialized subjects, namely, Banking Law and 

Practice; Insurance Law and Practice; Capital, Commodity and Money Market; Intellectual Property Rights – Law and Practice; and

International Business – Law and Practice; Launched PMQ course in Competition Law and Restructured PMQ Course in Corporate

Governance. In addition, various workshops and courses will also be launched.

INITIATIVES FOR STUDENTS

 A Merit Scholarship Scheme through ICSI Students Education Fund Trust has been developed under which highly

meritorious students will be granted monthly scholarships for three years subject to the passing the various stages of CS

Course at the first available opportunity.

 Online facilities for syllabus switchover, claiming qualification-based paper-wise exemption, change of elective

subject, etc have been made available onwww.icsi.edu.

 The Institute has completely switched over to Online Mode for Registration of Students w.e.f. 1st January, 2014.

 The Institute has completely switched over to Online Mode for Examination Enrollmentw.e.f. 1st October, 2013.

 A Grievance Solutions Cell has been established to look into the grievances of the students through a Grievance Portal

and also through a dedicated E-Mail Id[email protected].

 The syllabus of Foundation Programme, Executive Programme and Professional Programme have been revised.

 The Institute has also introduced Open Book Examination (OBE) system for the Elective Papers where student can

select one subject out of five subjects and give an Open Book Examination for the same.

 OMR based Examinations and Computer-based Examinations are conducted for Foundation Programme Stage.

 OMR based Examinations for three papers under New Syllabus of Executive Programme .

 An online English Learning course has been launched . Students can register online for the sameonwww.icsi.edu.

 The Study Materials are also available in PDF Format as well as E-Book form which can be downloaded by the students free of cost.

 50% Concession in Registration and Examination Fee has been introduced for War Widows and Wards of

Martyrs of military and para-military forces.

ICSI LAUNCHES SKILL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME FOR ITS STUDENTS

In an endeavour to develop advanced professional skills amongst the CS Students , The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) has launched a “15 days Academic Program” which shall be applicable for all Company Secretaryship (CS) students who have passed/completed their Executive Program (i.e. passed both/all modules of CS Executive Program) .

The 15 days academic programme launched by ICSI is also an endeavour to be in line with the ‘Skill India’ initiative of thePrime Minister, which aims to equip the youth of India with all the necessary skills to become a competitive global workforce.
