Japanese counterpart launched Pune’s 1st Visionary Laghu Udyog Mitra Mandal India (VLMi) learning centre under Make In India campaign

7th March, 2016: CII (Confederation of Indian Industries) and NMIET (Nutan Maharashtra Institute of Engineering & Technology) launched Pune’s 1st Visionary Laghu Udyog Mitra Mandal India (VLMi). A new initiative planned in March 2016, VLMi’s objective is to develop the manufacturing capabilities and competitiveness of independent small enterprises of India.

 

CII (Confederation of Indian Industries) and NMIET (Nutan Maharashtra Institute of Engineering & Technology) partnered to make VLMi initiative a grand success. Prof. Shoji Shiba, the JICA (Japanese International Cooperation Agency) expert, the world renowned breakthrough Management Guru, Padma Shri Awardee, Govt. of India, and Chief Advisor to CII; Mr. Takeyuki Furuhashi, JICA expert and Chief faculty for VSME; Prof. Sanjay Dhande, Former Director IIT Delhi;  Mr Chandrakant Patel the mentor of VLMi;Dr. Sarita Nagpal, Principal Advisor CII; Mr Saideep Rathnam, Ex Dean of Anand University; Mr. Masaaki Doi, JICA project coordinator; Mr. Kazuo Ishimoto, Sr. Staff for JETRO Mumbai; Mr. Takafumi Hotta, Bureau Chief of nikki; Mr. Sunil Kaul, Group President Anand Automotive; Mr. Rajesh Kakkar, Sr. Director VSME; Mr. Prakash Mughuli, MD Energy Microwave System Pvt.Ltd; Shri Santosh Khandage, Secretary NMVPM; Shri Sureshbhai Shah, Treasurer NMVPM and Mr. Krishnarao Bhegade, President, NMVPM launched the VLMi programe and the first VLMi Learning Centre at Nutan Engineering college. Talegaon Dabhade, wherein 30 SMEs from Pune participated.

“The programme was the result of former President APJ Abdul Kalam’s visit to Japan and inviting Prof. Shoji Shiba to help in increasing and improving the competitiveness of SME’s. JICA and CII had entered into a partnership to launch the programme which was aimed at the automobile sector due to the tiered structure of the industry” said Mr. Chandrakant Patel, Mentor of VLMi “Other than increase in productivity, the programme also helps in optimizing space for companies there by cutting down on needless investments” he further added.

VLMi initiative is considered as a historic moment for CSM because it is a Self Initiative Transformation and a partnership between CII & NMVPM to train engineering students. An elective course is proposed to be introduced in 2017 for mechanical and automotive engineering students.

Visionary Leaders for Manufacturing (VLFM), known as Champions for Societal Manufacturing (CSM), earlier (till 2014) is the flagship project, under the Indo-Japan Technical Cooperation Agreement. The objective of this project is transforming Indian Manufacturing. Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is the lead Implementation Agency in collaboration with JICA (Japanese International Cooperation Agency) for the CSM / VLFM programme. One of the objectives is to develop a sustainable 1000 Visionary Small and Medium Enterprises (1000 VSME) programme.

Nutan Maharashtra Vidya Prasarak Mandal is a heritage education society in Maharashtra and is credited with starting national education schools in the Maval Region of Pune. NMVPM, Talegaon Dabhade, Pune was established in 1906. The annual session of Indian national congress at Calcutta in 1906 adapted the revolutionary four point programme proposed by Lokmanya Tilak based on Swaraj, Swadeshi, Boycott and National Education.

Lokmanya Tilak started the Samarth Vidyalaya secondary school in Talegaon Dabhade in the year 1906. Lokmanya Tilak remained the president of NMVPM for the first 12 years, after him the patriotic visionary Late Shri. Annasaheb Vijapurkar took the administrative charge. The Paisa Fund was promoted and made famous by Lokmanya Tilak. He who went from village to village, asking farmers to contribute a paisa to the Paisa Fund, the first mutual fund which helped set up the Paisa Fund Glass Work, the first glass factory in India established in 1908 at NMVPM campus in Talegaon near Pune. NMVPM is highly favored, blessed and visited by India’s Nation builders and eminent personalities like Gopal Krushna Gokhale, Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subhashchandra Bose, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Swatantraveer Sawarkar and Sane Guruji.NMVPM is proud of Late Vishnu Ganesh Pingale who was an Indian revolutionary, a great patriot studied at Samarth Vidyalaya in Talegoan in 1908.The great freedom fighters Bhagatsingh, Sukhdev and Rajguru were inspired by Vishnu Ganesh Pingale who was hanged on 17 November, 1915 at Lahore central jail. NMVPM salutes this martyr.
