Pune, Maharashtra – March 20: Conserving our Earth is the need of hour and contributing towards this, JW Marriott, Pune  had participated in Earth Hour, a worldwide initiative organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).  Launched in 2007, the unique cause was celebrated this year on Saturday, 19th March, 2016 from 8:30pm-09:30pm. And for the sixth consecutive year, the hotel had also contributed its bit in saving maximum electricity by switching off all major units of lighting for one hour. The Hotel illuminated the dark restaurants and public areas with candles for that one hour.

Last year, JW Marriott Hotel Pune saved around 600 units of electricity and aligned itself with the goal of Earth Hour by spreading the message that the seemingly smallest measures to conserve energy are big steps in the right direction for communities, businesses and governments across the globe.

”Being one of the top hospitality brands of the city, JW Marriott Pune is deeply committed towards conserving the environment and contributing its bit for the community. By participating in Earth Hour year on year, we aim for maximum carbon reduction and support the initiative by World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), which was started years ago. All the lights of our external façade will be switched off and there will be reduced lighting within the hotel for an hour, from 8:30pm to 9:30pm.” said Mallika Chatterjee, Director-Sales and Marketing, JW Marriott Pune.

Earth Hour was started as a lights-off event in Sydney, Australia in 2007. Since then, it has grown to engage more than 172 countries and territories worldwide. This includes famous landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Rome’s Colosseum and Empire State Building. The event held to encourage individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour as a symbol for their love and devotion towards our beloved planet.
