Marwari Horse Show’ to delight all equine-lovers in Pune

Pune, February 24, 2020: Coming weekend, all horse lovers in Pune will get a chance to witness some exquisite and best Marwari equines at the Annual Marwari Breed Show. The show in its 5th edition will be organized by Maharashtra-based, Indigenous Horse Owners Association on Saturday, February 29 and Sunday March 1, 2020 at the prestigious Pune Race Course, Camp between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM.

This information was given by Ajay Nensee, President, Indigenous Horse Owners Association. This show is open to all and entry to this show is free of cost.

The Marwari horse is one of the 6 indigenous breeds of horses found in India. With an average height of 60-64 inches, they are a rare breed from Marwar Rajasthan and are known for their inward-turning ear tips, regal demeanor, loyalty and courage. Originally bred in the Malani region, it is now prevalent throughout India and Maharashtra boasts of some of the finest specimens of this breed.

The show will see approximately 125 participating horses across 6 different categories from states such as Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala. The categories will include Milk Teeth Filly, Milk Teeth Colt, Two Teeth Filly, Two Teeth Colt, Mare and Stallion.

“Marwari horses when brought together from different state will be a great sight of attraction for the viewers. The British came to India and brought with them their own horse breeds. This in turn destroyed our own indigenous breeds like the Marwari. But nowadays, several horse aficionados are taking special efforts to nurture them in the best possible way. In the past, these horses were used in battle or for long sailing trips, but now they are used for Indoor tournaments and exhibitions,” said Nensee.
