Mindset change is required for Predictive Maintenance

Speaking at the CII Industrial Maintenance Expo 2017 today, Mr Shishir Joshipura, Chairman, Industrial Maintenance Expo 2017 & Managing Director, SKF India Limitedemphasised on the need of Predictive Maintenance in the industry to fight the breakdown and losses. Advent of predictive maintenance era has started and industries have started accepting and adopting the change and companies should focus on asset utilisation. We are going into an era where we need a mix of everything for maintenance, “Yesterday’s concepts will not work today” hence we need be futuristic in the thought process he added.

Mr Sidhartha Panda, General Manager Lubes, Indian Oil Corporation said that bringing downtime is money. In India we normally prefer traditional methods for maintenance but it is time to change ourselves and we need to explore more.

Mr Rajeev Gupta, General Manager, Jindal Steel Limited was of the view that if the material is upgraded it will increase the life cycle of the product and there will be less loss.

Speaking on transiting people to new maintenance era, Mr Ravi Kumar Nara, President – South, Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry said nowadays even to operate a borewell people are using cell phone and adopting new technologies and also focusing on maintenance.

Mr Farhad Forbes, CEO & Director, Forbes Marshall Pvt Ltd said that it requires mindset change for cultural change. We spend huge amount of money on facilities & infrastructures, but do we spend more on maintenance? He was of the view that cultural change should start from school itself.
