Jaisalmer (Rajasthan), March 21, 2020: On the occasion of ‘Navroz’ on 21 March 2020, the Indian Army organised special celebrations at Jaisalmer, so as to make the evacuees feel special and welcomed in their home away from home.

Jaisalmer Military Station is hosting 484 of our Indian brethren who have been
evacuated from Iran in three wellness facilities. As part of the celebrations, a high tea was organised in the morning, followed by distribution of toys to children to uplift their morale. A delectable cuisine with dessert was prepared for a hearty feast in the evening to celebrate the festival and renewing the spirit of kindness and oneness.

‘Navroz’ is the day of vernal equinox and it marks the beginning of Spring in the Northern Hemisphere. It is a combination of two Persian words ‘Nav’ meaning new and ‘Roz’ meaning day. The festival has been celebrated by diverse ethno-linguistic groups for over seven thousand years. It is a secular festival enjoyed by people of several different faiths.

This ‘Navroz’ signifies a new beginning in the Nation’s fight against ‘COVID-19’. It also demonstrates the secular fabric of the Indian Army.
