Now trees cut at SP College ground where PM Modi will address BJP rally on Thursday

Pune, October 15, 2019: Three days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address a mega rally for the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) in Pune on Thursday, several trees were cut at the historic SP College, Tilak Road, ground which is the venue for the rally.

BJP city leadership has been able to get a rally by PM Narendra Modi in the city in the last leg of the campaign on October 17. BJP is fighting all eight seats in city and hoping to repeat the 2014 assembly election performance. The rally will be held at S P College ground.

While 16 trees were chopped as they had weakened due to heavy rains, many others were  cut as they posed security risk and the Pune city police officials asked the management to cut them. The college had taken permission from tree authority of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

Accordingly, on Monday night the trees were cut and transported away. The stage for PM Modi’s rally for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections is being also erected on the ground.

Sir Parashurambhau College is an Autonomous college in Pune, Maharashtra, India. Established in 1916, as New Poona College at the hands of the British Governor Lord Willingdon. The college was renamed as Sir Parashurambhau College as a mark of gratitude towards the then ruler of Jamkhandi State who donated Rs Two lakhs in the memory of his father, Parashurambhau Patwardhan.
