Pune, February 3, 2016: Ola, India’s leading mobile app for transportation today announced the launch of Ola Share, India’s first social ride-sharing platform in Pune. Users who travel on the same routes can now use Ola Share to share their cab rides with other users from social groups they are part of, starting today. Launched already in Bangalore, Delhi NCR, Mumbai,

Kolkata, Hyderabad and Chennai, Ola Share has received tremendous acceptance from both customers and driver partners. All of Ola’s security features like Track your Ride, Share Ride Details, SOS, Emergency Contacts, 24×7 Customer Support and In-trip feedback are available for users on Ola Share. Also, customers can choose to share rides with members of social groups they are part of, without having to share their ride with strangers.

Shared Mobility is the future of transportation in India and Ola Share has been specially designed to enable citizen’s ride together and contribute to reduction in pollution and congestion in their city. Ola Share makes for economical fares, since a ride can now be shared by up to three people at any point in time. Customers in Pune stand to benefit from discount of upto 50% on fares with Ola Share over the coming month.

Ishan Gupta, Category Head – Shared Mobility said, “We are thrilled to bring Ola Share to Pune. As an IT/ITES hub and a major learning centre, Pune is home to a large student and working population that needs reliable and affordable commute options. Shared Mobility also has far reaching benefits like reduced pollution and congestion free roads that result in cleaner and greener cities. With Ola Share, we bring the same convenience of a regular cab ride at a lower fare, in the comfort of sharing rides within social groups. Through this, we are also enabling access to mobility for many more users, furthering our mission of building mobility for a billion people.”

Citizens in Pune have been battling with congestion on roads and traffic bottlenecks across the city. In fact, almost 2 lakh vehicles ply everyday from Hinjewadi alone, making driving a car extremely traumatic and tiresome. Further, navigation stress and lack of parking facilities add to the transportation woes.

With Ola Share, colleagues from a workplace or friends from a college can come together to share rides amongst themselves. A user can join multiple groups or simply choose to share a ride with anyone. As soon as users request a Share ride on the Ola app, they are matched with other users from their groups along their way. On the other hand, driver-partners get an option to log onto the Share platform, getting instant access to increased revenue of up to 50%, through continuous fulfilment of booking requests.

 How does Ola Share work?

Ola Share appears on the Ola app as a separate category. On sharing the drop location, the Ola app uses advanced algorithms to match users from common social groups, looking for a cab on the same route, in real time. When additional users en-route are identified, the driver’s device gets an alert with navigation to their pickup location within minutes, to join the ride. A maximum of 3 people can share a cab together via Ola Share.
