Krishna Nayakodi and T. Manorama Devi wins big in Elite category at Saksham Cyclothon Mumbai 2018

Mumbai 25th February 2018: The Maximum city witnessed more than 6000 participants pedal on the streets of Mumbai on Sunday. India’s Premier Cyclothon; the Saksham Cyclothon Mumbai 2018 featured four categories – Elite (Men – 46 km/women – 32 km), Amateur (Men & Women 18 km), MTB and Hybrid, Amateur MTB Road Bike and the crowd favorite 8 kms Green Ride.

The ride was flagged off by Mr. Alok Tripathi, Executive Director- PCRA, Narain Karthikeyan and Milind Soman from P.J. Hindu Gymkhana and Wilson Gymkhana Grounds, Nethaji Subhash Chandra Bose Road, Mumbai. More than 150 elite cyclists participated in the inaugural ride, while many cyclists participated in the amateur category. Participants from various walks of life came together to support a greener tomorrow in the 8 kms Green Ride; a non-competitive category.

The cyclothon witnessed officials from various petroleum ministries, Ashish Shelar, Member of Bhartiya Janta Party, sports personalities like, Narain Karthikeyan, Ashwini Ponappa, Vijay Kannan, Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer, Dhawal Kulkarni and various celebrities along with school and college children, cycling professionals, amateurs and homemakers.

Mr Alok Tripathy, Executive Director, PCRA said, “Saksham Cyclothon Mumbai 2018 aims to bring out the best in our society by promoting fuel conservation and healthy living. It is a proud moment for us to witness so many people participating today supporting the cause.”

Speaking on the occasion, Co-Founder, Maximus Mice and Media Solutions, Milind Soman stated, “Fuel conservation is an extremely important issue that has been addressed through the Saksham Cyclothon. Along with the cause, creating awareness and encouraging people to use the cycle on a day-to-day basis as part of a healthier lifestyle is the main focus, and being a part of such a prestigious event was an absolute pleasure. I would like to congratulate all the participants for making a difference by being a part of this initiative.”

India’s first F1 driver, Narain Karthikeyan said, “The Saksham Cyclothon has taken up a huge task of promoting fuel conservation through a large-scale mass participation event. I would like to praise the organizers and participants for pulling off a successful event and encouraging an initiative which is an absolute need of the hour today.”

The initiative by Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) under the aegis of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India and supported by the oil companies viz. IOCL, BPCL, HPCL, ONGC, GAIL, OIL, MRPL, CPCL, NRL and IGL with technical guidance from Cycling Federation of India and organized by Maximus Events to make citizens of Mumbai aware of the conservation and effective utilization of petroleum products.

List of winners across categories is as given below:

Male – Elite Men (46km): 1st position Krishna Nayakodi from SSCB won a medal and cheque of INR 1, 25,000, 2nd position Mallappa Murtannavar from Railways won a medal and cheque of INR 75,000, 3rd position Arvind Panwar from Railways won a medal and cheque of INR 50,000

Female– Elite Women (32km): 1st position T. Manorama Devi from Railways won a medal and cheque of INR 1,00,000, 2nd position Lidiyamol M Sunny from won a medal and cheque of INR 50,000, 3rd position M Sonali Chanu from Railways won a medal and cheque of INR 40,000
