Poona College providing humanitarian relief in the form of free meals

Pune, 28 April 2020 – In the wake of the rapidly spreading novel Coronavirus pandemic, Poona College Teachers and Alumni have thought about the people earning on daily wage basis and of those whose work is also hampered due to sudden lockdown. Poona College provide meals to more than 700 people daily across Pune City during the lockdown.

Volunteers work for the whole day starting from purchase of grocery from Market Yard, vegetables from Kharadi and local market, cutting the same daily, cleaning of all vessels for next day, helping the cook, preparing the packets and at last distribution to the needy. This team also prepares Ration Packets for the families who are struggling to survive

Dr Aftab Anwar, Principal of Poona College said, “We are extremely grateful to all our College Teachers and Poona College Alumni and especially Gen. Secretary of Anjuman Khairul Islam Mumbai Hani Farid and Chairman Nisar I Patel for their kind contribution, strong support and cooperation.”

Vice Principal Iqbal Shaikh said, “This is the right time to help the poor and needy by giving ration, grocery and daily food to the security guards, begger etc. who are still in a hope that someone will come and give them some Ration n daily food during this lockdown period.”

Police Mitra Mayuresh Jadhav added, “Most of these meals were provided to sweepers, daily wagers and the needy migrant labourers and the poor who have been hit horrific due to loss of income during the lockdown.”

Poona College Students, NSS Volunteers , NYK Volunteers, Police Mitra Mayuresh Jadhav, Farhaan, Azhar, Affan, Suhail, Wasim, Atik, Shahrukh, Muskaan, Aslam, Shadab, Shahrukh, DYC Yeshwant Mankhedkar, Police Inspector  Vaishali Chandgude and Adv. Rasika Kulkarni has helped for the success of this distribution.
