Pune discussed ‘City of future’ with Global leaders at Davos

PUNE, India ¾ Jan 23, 2016 ¾ Pune is one of the growing cities in India. With cities becoming growth engines and the resulting opportunities creating huge population growth, the current infrastructure doesn’t provide even the basics and many cities are becoming unlivable. Pune hub takes pride to announce that we were the only city in India, selected by World Economic Forum to host a Shaping Davos session on the topic ‘Re-imagining Cities of the Future’.

The World Economic Forum is well known for its Annual winter meeting in Davos, Switzerland. The meeting brings together hundreds of top business leaders, international political leaders, selected intellectuals, and journalists to discuss the most pressing issues facing the world. With an aim to bring Davos closer to the people, 20 cities were selected from across the world that would host a local Davos event titled – Shaping Davos.

These 20 Cities selected under Shaping Davos were to organize a local event in their respective cities and the outcomes of these local events would be discussed live in Davos, Switzerland with eminent panel. Pune was connected live to the world via the studio in Davos on 23rd Jan 2016 during the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting 2016. This live session was developed in collaboration with Moscow Hub, Pune Hub, Jeddah Hub and Islamabad Hub of the Global Shapers Community.

We hosted a local session on 21st January 2016 at Novotel Pune. The panelist for this discussed were a mix of representatives from Civic, Academia, Technology and Art. The panelist were Rajendra Jagtap (Additional Commissioner, PMC),Yogesh Jiandani (CTO, GSP India & SAARC at Cisco), Anshoo Gaur (President, Amdocs India), Bobby Nimbalkar (CEO, Delivering Change Foundation), Jyoti Chandiramani (Director, Symbiosis School of Economics) and Khushru Irani (Founder, Khushru Irani Design Studio,& The Loft Forum).

Anshoo Gaur, President and Head of Amdocs India was moderator of this interesting Shaping Davos 2016 panel discussion. The focus of the discussion was n How to engage Citizens to solve Municipal Problems? and the Challenges for peaceful and healthy life in Pune.

The local discussion was attended by top industry representatives, civil society organizations, youth organizations, researchers, students and citizens. The has tag #ShapingCities was trading heavily on that day. It is a matter of great pride for the city and an opportunity to engage and shape the global agenda on economic growth and development. This two hour deliberation resulted in inputs which were shared by Bobby Nimbalkar in the live session. While we were hosting session here, our Pune Shaper Rohit Nayak met Prime Minister of Canada in Davos. He is representing Pune at Davos meet.
