Pune fake call centre dupes 1500 Americans of hundreds of dollars

Pune, 13th January 2018 – Sleuths from Pune city police cyber crime cell and social security cell have busted a fake call centre in Kharadi, for allegedly duping 175 American citizens of over Rs 10 lakhs under pretext of tech support for crashed system of Apple iPhone and iPad users. Police investigations have revealed that the fraudsters have cheated over 1500 Americans of hundreds of US Dollars.

Based on a tip-off, a joint team raided the premises of V Tech Square international call centre, which operated from fifth floor of City Vista in Kharadi on Thrusday. Police officials said that Aditya Kale and Rohit Mathur operated the call centre in partnership. They used to send error links to Safari browser users of Apple iPhone and iPad and then used to call them for tech support and charged 100 US dollars through iTune card for their services. After the Americans purchased the cards, the accused persons used to send the details to their accomplice based in Rajasthan, who used to transfer the amount in their account after deducting his commission.

Police have seized six hard disks, and other materials used by the two arrested accused persons against whom an FIR has been registered with Chandan Nagar police station.
