Pune FLO Half Marathon enters successfully in its second year

Pune, 4th October: Pune FICCI FLO organized the Pune FLO Half Marathon on 2nd October 2016, ‘Run for Empowerment’. Puneites braved the weather and came in huge numbers to Magarpatta in a show of strength for a cause. This is the second year of this Marathon. Over 7000+ participants registered for the run and an overwhelming 5000+ thronged the Magarpatta ground inspite of heavy rains the previous day.

The Marathon was graced by the first lady of Maharashtra, Mrs. Amruta Fadnavis, Athelete Ms. Lalita Babar and the courageous Ms. Arunima Sinha. They applauded the participants and FICCI FLO, for their outstanding contribution to women empowerment.

While addressing the crowd, Mrs. Fadnavis said ‘I’m very happy to visit Pune and it is heartwarming to see all women get together to support the cause of women’.

Ms. Lalita Babar, current national record holder in 3000mtrs steeplechase and sportsperson of the year also congratulated the participants for their show of strength. She urged the runners to prepare themselves to represent Maharashtra in the next Olympics.

Ms. Arunima Sinha, who inspite of being physically challenged, scaled Mount Everest and five other highest peaks of the world, was very emotional and said that she was glad she made the trip to Pune  as it was one of her favorite cities.

The FICCI FLO, Pune Chapter Chairperson Mrs. Sabina Sanghvi welcomed all the dignitaries and felicitated them. While speaking on this occasion she applauded her team members, especially Mrs Sangeeta Lalwani, who was the force behind this Marathon, and said ‘the real mantra of any mission is likeminded people coming together and working towards one goal’.

Mr. Satish Magar had magnanimously given his venue for the run second year consecutively, and Mr. Atul Chordia from Panchshil sponsored the run and extended his support to the event. Deutsch Bank was the co-sponsor and Mr. Rahul Dokania, Director Group Finance of Deutsch Bank said he was happy to partner with FLO for the second year.

This event was also graced by other dignitaries who had sponsored and supported the run in varied capacities. Among them were Mr. Rex Yohannan , from Forbes Marshal, Mr. Bhosale of ABIL, Mrs. Chabria from Finolex, Mr. Krishnan Komandur of Adar Poonawala Clean City Mission,  Professor Mangesh Dande from Indira Group of Institutes. Mr. Harshal Sharma from ‘Elicious’ Baramati Agro, Mr.Atul Lunkad from Lunkad Realty, Mr. Rajat Raheja from Amdocs, Mr. NarendraGoidani from Rebirth , and representatives of Credit Suisse and Barclays.

Armed with over 30 years of experience, FLO has been promoting entrepreneurship and professional excellence in women through various workshops, seminars, conferences, talks, training, capacity building programmes etc. to encourage and facilitate inclusion of women’s talents, skills, experience and energies across all sectors and levels of economic activity.
