Pune police seize cigarrets worth Rs 20 lakhs

Pune, May 18, 2020: The sleuths from the anti-narcotics cell (east) of the Crime Branch of Pune city police have seized cigarettes worth Rs 20 lakhs in Hadapsar. The arrested person has been identified as Devendra Parashuram Gupta, (33), a resident of Old Mhada Colony, Surakshanagar, Hadapsar.

 Police seized cigarettes, tobacco from Om Trading Stores, Old Mhada Colony, Surakshanagar, Hadapsar.  “Acting on a tip-off, our team raided the shop and seized cigarettes worth Rs 20 lakhs. FIR has been registered with Hadapsar police station against the accused person”, said DCP (crime) Bachchan Singh.

The action was taken under the guidance of DCP (crime) Bachchan Singh, a team led by Police Inspector Vijay Tikole, ASI Arjun Divekar, Shinde, Police Naik Ramchandra Yadav, Police Naik Hema Dhebe, Head Constable Sable. ASI Shinde had received information about the shop where black-marketing of cigarettes and tobacco was being done.

An FIR has been registered with Hadapsar police station against the accused shop owner for offences under relevant sections of the Cigerrrates and Other Tobacco Products Act, Indian Penal Code, National Disaster Management Act and Maharashtra Covid-19 Rule. He has been handed over to Hadapsar police station for further investigation.
