Pune Police seizes 120 kg Ganja amid Corona lockdown

Pune, May 25, 2020: The sleuths from Pune Police Crime Branch’s anti-narcotics cell (west region) have seized 120 kg Ganja along with one Skoda, one small temp, totally worth Rs 34 lakhs. Police have arrested three accused persons. They were nabbed while transporting the narcotic substance from Vishakhapatnam to Mumbai. Further investigation is going on to trace their accomplices.

The arrested persons have been identified as Sameer Hasnali Sheikh (37), Himayatullah Mohammad Ali Sheikh (41) and Ashwin Shivaji Danve (26), all residents of Mumbai. The anti-narcotics cell had received information that some people were transporting cannabis from Visakhapatnam to Mumbai via a Skoda car and a small Tempo. Accordingly, a team led by Police Sub Inspector Mahadik laid a trap and nabbed near Hadapsar toll naka on Solapur highway on Sunday morning.

Police checked the Skoda and found 48 kg of cannabis. Later it was learnt that the tempo has gone ahead. DCP (Crime Branch) Bachchan Singh informed Pune rural police SP and asked him to get the tempo stopped. Accordingly, the tempo was stopped near Khalapur toll plaza. A team led by Police Inspector Rajendra Mohite reached there and seized 72 kg of cannabis hidden under coconuts. Accordingly, the team seized a total of 120 kg of cannabis, 1 Skoda vehicle, 1 small elephant Tempo, return e-pass from Visakhapatnam to Vadodara. Now an FIR has been registered against them with Hadapsar police station.

Additional Commissioner of Police (crime) Ashok Morale, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Bachchan Singh, ACP Shivaji Pawar supervised the team which included policemen Magar, Garud, Shinde, Kalbhor, Wanjle, Bagwan, Pawar and Yelpale.
