Pune : Rs 2000 fine, 3 months jail for spitting gutkha, paan, tobacco in court premises

Pune, August 17, 2019 : Beware !!! Now if you are caught spitting paan, gutkha or tobacco etc in the Pune district court premises in Shivajinagar, you will face imprisonment upto three months and pay Rs 2000 fine.
Shriniwas Agarwal, the Principal District and Sessions judge, issued a circular in this regard on Friday. The Pune Bar Association had earlier complained to the Bombay High Court and District Court officials in this regard.
Now a team of police and court peons along with 10 lawyers have been formed for taking action.
Everyday thousands of litigants, lawyers visit the district court premises in Shivajinagar. The buildings especially the staircases and toilets are full of paan, tobacco and gutkha stains.
Hope this new rule helps get rid of the stains on the wall and keep the premises clean.
