Pune: Scooty catches fire after hit by car driven by drunk engineer, woman rider burnt

Pune, December 12, 2019: In a shocking incident, a woman riding scooty died of burn injuries after her vehicle caught fire after being hit by a car in Kharadi. The accident took place on Wednesday at midnight.

Pune city police have arrested Manish Chaudhari (37) of Pashan Road. He works with a reputed multi-national financial services company.

According to Chandan Nagar police station, the woman Shradha Madhukar Bangar (22) of Chandan Nagar was going towards Nagar road. The car hit her scooty from behind near City Vista society in Kharadi and the two-wheeler skid. There was petrol leakage and due to sparks, it caught fire. Before she could get up, she sustained burn injuries resulting in her death.

The police immediately conducted a medical test of the accused Chaudhari. The report stated that he was drunk. He was arrested and produced before a court on Thursday. He was not granted bail and sent to jail.

Police have charged the accused of offences under section 304 (2) (culpable homicide), 279 (rash driving), 427 (damage to property) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.
