Pune: Three Nigerian sentenced 3 years, fined Rs 15 lakhs in matrimony fraud case

Pune, November 30, 2019: A judicial magistrate court has sentenced three Nigerian nationals to three years of imprisonment for duping a woman of Rs 38 lakhs in matrimony fraud case.

JMFC MM Raut also imposed a fine of Rs five lakhs on each of the three convicts Ogeuri Emmanual Chinaso, Osaramense Smart and Tope Oluwoly.

As per the case registered with Chatushrungi police station, the complainant woman had created profile for marriage on www.maitrimony.com site. Dr Rajesh Kumar from UK accepted her profile and they both shared their details and started chatting on Facebook, WhatsApp and email in August 2015.

Police officials further said after one month of chatting Dr Rajesh told the lady that he has received secret fund of Rs 1.5 crores and he can’t keep that amount with him. So he wishes to send it to her. And as a pretext of receiving that courier she was compelled to deposit amount of Rs 38.22 lakhs in 16 different accounts of six  different banks. After realizing the cheating she approached the police.

 After technical analysis and chase for15days at Delhi, Senior Police Inspector Sunil Pawar, API Thenge, PSI Pravin Swami and policemen Attar, Jaba and staff of Cyber Cell Pune, nabbed the accused. Police had seized three laptops ,10 mobiles, 20 sim cards, 8 dongles used for the crime, from their house search. The case was investigated and chargesheeted by Sr Pi Sunil Pawar.

 All the three accused are convicted and given punishment as – u/s 419 rigorous imprisonment of 1 year, u/s 420 rig imprisonment of 3 years and u/s 66Cd 1 year rig imprisonment and compensation of 5 lakhs to each accused and in default of payment ,6 month of imprisonment.
