Pune’s Sanjeev Khadke becomes Vice-President of Maharashtra Association of Anthropological Sciences

Pune, 13th April: City’s very own Sanjeev Khadke has been elected as a Vice President of Maharashtra Association of Anthropological Sciences (MAAS). This was announced recently in the city during the Executive Committee meeting held in Pune by MASS.

Sanjeev Khadke retired as a Divisional Joint Registrar of Co-operative Societies, Pune and has been the Administrator of Agricultural Produce Market Committee. He has been associated with MASS since last 8 years. Earlier, Sanjeev Khadke has been a Treasurer and an Administrator of MASS and has now been elected as a Vice President in recently held tri-annual elections of the organisation.

The Maharashtra Association of Anthropological Sciences is an academic non-governmental organisation based at Pune. Eminent Anthrapologist (Scientist) and recipient of International Mahatma Gandhi Award for Leprosy, Dr. R K Mutatkar is the founder of this organisation. MAAS undertakes basic and intervention research in the areas of public health and development through holistic perspective. MAAS strives to use knowledge for understanding and proposing solutions to human problems in tribal, rural and urban communities. Through its activities. MAAS has been bringing together policy planners, administrators, activist and academician to discuss around gender, culture, environment, health and education in the perspective of rural and tribal development.

One of the communication channels complementing these efforts has been quarterly publication of MAAS in Marathi, Hakara (Clarion Call), in publication since 1980, has been exclusively devoted to discuss tribal issues pertaining to their identification and development in India. MAAS has been recognised as Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (SIROs) by Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) under Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. MAAS is Also recognised recently as Research Centre of Savitribai Phule Pune University for the disciplines of Anthropology and health Sciences.

MAAS undergoes election every three years. In the recent election for the term 2016-2019 Prof. S Parasuraman who is a Director of Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai was elected as President. The MAAS Executive Committee is a 13 members body wherein along with these two Dr. B.R. Pathan (Treasurer), G.S. Pandit (General Secretory), Saju Joseph (Joint-Secretary) are the office bearer and Dr. Ramesh Awasthi, Dr. Sanjay Juvekar, Dr. Aarti Nagarkar, Dr. Abhay kudale, Dr. Rohit Mutatkar, Smt. Surekha Dalavi, Smt. Ushakiran Aatram and Lavu Gavade are Executive Committee Members.
