Railway helps Kerala in its hour of need

In response to Hon’ble Minister of Railways and Coal, Shri Piyush Goyal’s call and Railways’ commitment towards providing all possible aid in the hour of need to people of Kerala who have been affected drastically by the floods, Central Railway took the initiative to provide free transportation of relief material for Kerala through various Government agencies and PSUs and also in contributing substantial amount by it’s employees towards Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.

As on 5.9.2018, Central Railway carried a total of 849.23 tonnes of relief material free of cost to Kerala from its 5 Divisions by 35 special parcel vans and through train services. The relief material despatched by each division to Kerala is as follows:

Officers and Staff of Central Railway also contributed voluntarily from salary an amount of Rs.6,62,47,250/- ( Rupees Six crore sixty two lakh forty seven thousand two hundred fifty only) in an effort to provide financial aid to Kerala. This been contributed from the salary of staff and officers for August 2018 and the proceeds have been remitted to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).

It’s pertinent to mention here that earlier too Central Railway had sent potable water in 14 tank wagons to Kerala the basic and essential need at that hour.
