RSS defamation : Rahul Gandhi appears before Mumbai court

Mumbai, July 4, 2019 : Rahul Gandhi, who resigned from the post of Congress president on Wednesday, has reached for a defamation case hearing at Sewree Court in Mumbai on Thursday. Apart from him, CPI (M) leader Sitaram Yechury has also reached the court in connection with the case. Yechury is also accused in this case.

After the murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh, Gandhi had said that RSS-BJP ideology is behind her killing. Describing Rahul Gandhi’s statement as defamatory, RSS volunteer and advocate Dhartman Joshi filed a case against former Congress president Rahul Gandhi in Mumbai’s Sewree court.

After several court hearings, on Thursday morning Rahul Gandhi appeared before the court. During the previous hearing in the court, Rahul Gandhi’s lawyers had told the court that due to his busy schedule in the Lok Sabha election, he could not come to court. The court ordered Rahul to appear before the court.

The Congress party is already undergoing a major political crisis. On Wednesday, after resignation of Rahul Gandhi, the name of Motilal Vora is doing rounds as the interim president.

Rahul Gandhi has been involved in some more cases in courts for the past few years. Rahul is already facing a case in Bhiwandi Court adjacent to Mumbai. He had said that RSS was involved in the killing of Mahatma Gandhi. Against this statement, RSS activist had filed a lawsuit against Rahul Gandhi in Bhiwandi court, which is still in progress.
