‘Sangeet Sandhya’ to pay homage to Vocalist Pt. Shrikant Deshpande

Pune,2 June, 2019: To pay homage to late Vocalist Pt. Shrikant Deshpande, a special event- ‘Sangeet Sandhya’, dedicated to Indian classical music is organized in the city, prior to his birth anniversary. The event will take place on Thursday, June 6, at Yashwantrao Chavan Auditorium, Kothrud, at 5 pm. The entry to the event is free and open for all with few seats reserved for dignitaries, informed on behalf of the organizers Sheela Deshpande, Wife of Pt. Shrikant Deshpande and ‘Shrikant Deshpande Mitra Mandal’.

In this event, music lovers will get a chance to listen to Yashaswi Sirpotdar, disciple of Pandita Padma Talwalkar and to Pt. Raghunandan Panashikar, renowned Vocalist and disciple of Gaansaraswati Kishori Amonkar. The vocalists will be accompanied by Suyog Kundalkar on Harmonium and Rohit Mujumdar and Bharat Kamat on Tabla. Ravindra Khare will anchor the event. Free passes for the programme will be available from June 1, at Navdikar Musicals, in front of Yashwantrao Chavan Auditorium.

Pt. Shrikant Deshpande was Grandson of legendary Vocalist Sawai Gandharva and one of the eldest disciples of Pt. Bhimsen Joshi. He was not only known for his art as a Vocalist but was famous for his organizational skills, specially for his contribution in Sawai Gandharva Sangeet Mahotsav, now known as Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav. He was always keen on the inclusion of new and young artists in Sawai Gandharva festival. Pt. Deshpande passed away 8 years ago. After that, the event ‘Sangeet Sandhya’ is being organized every year prior to his birth anniversary.
